Nandrolone in two esters: decanoate for a long release, phenylpropionate for a short one.

Nandrolone is a 19-nortestosterone derivative. It is reduced to dihydronandrolone rather than DHT in 5-alpha-reductase target tissues, which gives it a different androgenic profile from testosterone.

Progestogenic activity is a documented feature of the 19-nor class, and it is why nandrolone appears in the literature alongside prolactin management in a way that testosterone generally does not. It does aromatise, though at a considerably lower rate than testosterone.

Stocked as decanoate, with a half-life of approximately 6 to 7 days, and as phenylpropionate (NPP) at roughly 2 to 3 days. The parent hormone is the same; the ester determines the release rate and therefore how quickly levels build and clear.

The two are frequently discussed as though they were different compounds. They are not.

Does nandrolone aromatise?

Yes, but at a lower rate than testosterone. Progestogenic activity is the separate and more frequently discussed consideration for this class.

Why is prolactin mentioned with nandrolone?

Because progestogenic activity is documented for 19-nor compounds, and that interacts with prolactin. It is a different mechanism from oestrogen.

Which clears faster?

NPP, by a wide margin. That is the practical reason for choosing it over decanoate.
